Finishing the Septic Plumbing

Today, we’re laying the rest of the drain pipe. We’ve only got about 40’ to go, but it bends and slopes downhill, which will make forming the run a bit harder.

Working with PVC is pretty easy. We had a sawzall to cut the 4” pipe. The hardest part was keeping the fittings clean. It’s so dusty, and I’ve only got one clean rag. We forgot a roll of paper towels. I am putting a flex fitting every 10-15’ so that the whole line has a bit more flex to it, to try and protect it from issues during settling.

The distribution box hooks up easily. The PVC just slides into the box and the built-in fitting hugs the pipe snugly. For the pipes that exit the distribution box and go to the chambers, we are using something called ‘Dial-a-Flows’ (shown in video below). These are like caps that go on in front of the pipe opening. The caps have a smaller hole at the 6 o’clock position, which can be turned clockwise, controlling how quickly water can enter the pipe. This is helpful in ensuring each pipe gets exactly the same amount of flow.
